Going from an Association Event to a Rock Concert
Last month, we had the distinct opportunity to manage the Audio Visual technology and stage looks for back-to-back, very different clients in Lansing, MI. Faced with the challenge of keeping each event unique, effective, and memorable, we designed stage and lighting looks that would match the overall atmosphere of the event and deliver the appropriate messages to the audience.
The first event for the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism was a mix of general sessions, awards banquets, and breakout rooms. The highlight events for AV were definitely the awards banquets, where we had our new Wideline array sound system, conventional and intelligent lighting, and large projection screens. The stage was dressed with 20’ tall white drape, which enabled us to change the color of the backdrop using LED lights, and display the association’s logos. This stage look gave us the versatility to match the mood and décor of each session.
This conference was followed closely by the Lansing Promise annual dinner event. Our biggest challenge here was preparing for the “special musical guest”, who was invited by Magic Johnson, and unveiled only after Johnson’s introduction. Following their national tour, Earth, Wind & Fire rocked the stage after the dinner program that night. For weeks in advance, Chase Creative had been preparing the exclusive AV gear and technical personnel to make sure the show met the high caliber expectations of the production team and event management. The Wideline array was, again, a key element for the show, as was the extensive rigging and lighting plan. The 20’ white drape, used previously as a backdrop, became the exciting Kabuki reveal when the band was introduced.
Although much of the same gear was used for both of these events, the Chase Creative team made it feel like each show was unique and distinctive for the two clients.
